Millis began martial arts training with high school wrestling
in 1972 and continued with Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet
Kune Do along with Wing Chun Kung Fu and the concepts of the
Philippine and Indonesian Martial Arts. Mr. Millis holds the
black belt equivalent of achievement in Jun Fan Gung Fu /
Jeet Kune Do awarded personally by Sifu Steven Tarani.
In 1985,
he entered training with legendary Bujinkan Shidoshi Stephen
K. Hayes who generously introducing him to Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi,
the current Soke of the Bujinkan Dojo system. Noted among
his vast achievements, Dr. Hatsumi is the 34th linear Grandmaster
of the oldest surviving school of combat strategy in the world.
Mr. Millis has been personally graded by Dr. Hatsumi for each
Bujinkan rank he holds and continues his study under Dr. Hatsumi's
benevolent guidance traveling to Japan for ongoing study,
observation and reflection.
Mr. Millis'
collective pursuits also include the methods of Hoshinjutsu,
receiving his Godan and Shihans licenses personally from by
Dr. Glenn J. Morris Ph. D.,D.Sc. founder and first Soke of
the Hoshin Ryu Dojo in 1987. Dr. Morris is a member in perpetuity
of The World Head & Sokeship Council & World Martial
Arts Hall of Fame.
In 1990
Mr. Millis and his father were honored with the Bujinkan Golden
Dragon Award for their contributions to the Bujinkan Dojo
with their inception and worldwide distribution of the Bujin
Newsletter. Mr. Millis received the Presidential Sports Award
of Excellence by former United States President William Clinton
for his contributions to physical fitness and health awareness
and has also studied and worked to become an expert technical
rock climber, PADI Divemaster, published artist and writer.
Commissioned
by Dr. Hatsumi in 1987 to establish the first Bujinkan Dojo
in Southern California, Mr. Millis has taught the martial
arts for more than two decades. Mr. Millis continues that
commission leading instructional seminars, supporting the
Bujinkan Dojo International and learning institutions worldwide.
