Kevin
Millis was born April 13th, 1956 and began his martial arts
training with high school wrestling in 1972 and continued
with the methods of Kung Fu San Soo, a northern Chinese
system. Mr. Millis was then introduced to Bruce Lee's Jun
Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do along with Wing Chun Kung Fu
and the concepts of the Philippine and Indonesian Martial
Arts. Mr. Millis holds the black belt equivalent of achievement
in Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do awarded personally by
Sifu Steven Tarani.
Continuing
his search for personal excellence Mr. Millis entered training
with legendary Bujinkan Shidoshi Stephen K. Hayes. Shidoshi
Hayes was responsible for guiding and generously introducing
Mr. Millis to Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the current Soke of the
nine ryuha that comprise the Bujinkan Dojo system. Noted
among his vast achievements, Dr. Hatsumi is the 34th linear
Grandmaster of the oldest surviving school of combat strategy
in the world. Mr. Millis has been personally graded by Dr.
Hatsumi for each Bujinkan rank he holds and continues to
study under Dr. Hatsumi's benevolent guidance traveling
to Japan for ongoing study, observation and reflection.
Mr.
Millis' collective pursuits and purposes also include the
energetic, healing and life sustaining methods of Hoshinjutsu.
Mr. Millis has received both Godan and Shihans licenses
from the Hoshin Roshi Ryu and was presented with these honors
personally by Dr. Glenn J. Morris Ph. D.,D.Sc. founder and
first Soke of the Hoshin Ryu Dojo. Dr. Morris is now a member
in perpetuity of The World Head of Family & Sokeship
Council and the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Mr. Millis
has been involved in these esoteric arts as a student of
the late Soke Dr. Morris since 1987.
In
December of 1990 Mr. Millis and his father were honored
with the Bujinkan Golden Dragon Award by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi
for their contributions to the Bujinkan Dojo with their
inception and worldwide distribution of the Bujin Newsletter.
Mr. Millis has been awarded the Presidential Sports Award
of Excellence by former United States President William
Clinton for his contributions to physical fitness and health
awareness and has also studied and worked to become an expert
technical rock climber, PADI Master scuba diver, Divemaster,
published artist and writer.
Commissioned by Dr. Hatsumi in 1987 to establish the first
Bujinkan Dojo in Southern California, Mr. Millis has taught
the martial arts to thousands of people, from all walks
of life for more than two decades. Along with lecturing
and conducting national and international workshops, Mr.
Millis continues that commission leading instructional seminars,
supporting the Bujinkan Dojo International and learning
institutions worldwide.
